2021 PGA Championship weather forecast (ideal conditions), Round 1 and 2 tee times at Kiawah Island

The second golf major of the year, the PGA Championship, tees off early Thursday morning from Kiawah Island in South Carolina.

The first- and second-round tee times for the 2021 PGA Championship at Kiawah Island Golf Resort's Ocean Course in South Carolina were released Tuesday and three reigning major championship winners are a featured group Thursday and Friday. They would be 2020 PGA Championship winner Collin Morikawa, 2020 U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau and 2021 Masters winner Hideki Matsuyama. That trio will begin at 8:44 a.m. ET Thursday on the 10th tee and be one of the groups available to be seen on ESPN+.

DeChambeau, yet to win the PGA Championship, has the shortest odds of that trio at William Hill Sportsbook to win this week at +1800, while Morikawa is +3300 to repeat and Matsuyama also +3300 to win his first Wanamaker Trophy.

Betting favorite Rory McIlroy (+1100), looking for his third PGA Championship title, will play the first two rounds with Justin Thomas (+1600) and Brooks Koepka (+3300), and they tee off 11 minutes before the above group Thursday morning on the 10th tee. ESPN+ also will feature that trio among a handful of others.

McIlroy won the 2012 PGA also at Kiawah Island and the 2014 PGA in Louisville, Thomas won the 2017 PGA Championship in Charlotte, and Koepka won the PGA Championship in both 2018 (outside St. Louis) & '19 (New York State).  Koepka finished T29 last year going for a threepeat and isn't 100 percent healthy right now because of knee trouble.

Tee times for the first round begin at 7 a.m. ET, with groups going off the first and 10th tees. The last tee time is at 2:42 p.m. Playing 7,849 yards, the Ocean Course will be the longest of any major championship in PGA Tour history.

When McIlroy won in 2012, he finished at 13 under but nobody else was better than 5 under. Conditions are expected to be tougher this year because the tournament is played in May instead of August -- i.e., summer rains back then softened the course -- and due to the course being longer. It is 135 yards longer than the previous major championship record holder, Erin Hills, the host of the 2017 U.S. Open.  Golf Digest has declared the Ocean Course the most difficult in the country.

The weather looks terrific this week at Kiawah Island, which is about 25 miles down the South Carolina coast from Charleston, with morning lows in the mid-60s with afternoon highs around 80 degrees all weekend. As of now, there isn't a better than six percent chance of rain Thursday-Sunday, but it will be breezy each day considering the course is located adjacent to the Atlantic Ocean.

Here is the daily report from weather.com:

Thursday -- Sunny skies. High 77F. Winds E at 10 to 15 mph.

Friday -- A few clouds from time to time, six percent chance of rain. High 79F. Winds ENE at 10 to 15 mph.

Saturday -- Partly cloudy, six percent chance of rain. High 81F. Winds ENE at 5 to 10 mph.

Sunday -- A few clouds early, otherwise mostly sunny. High 84F. Winds SW at 10 to 15 mph.
