Jonathan Coachman is joined by expert sports bettors Mike McClure and Larry Hartstein on the Early Edge podcast. They give you their best bets for Major League Baseball, the PGA, NBA, NASCAR and Mexican soccer for Sunday, May 2.
Coach starts things off with three SportsLine Plays of the Day. The first two come from Mexican soccer: Club America and Pumas UNAM play to a draw (+200) and go Under 2.5 goals in that game (10:05 p.m. ET).
The third play comes in the NBA: The 76ers and Spurs go Over 221 points (8 p.m. ET). "The Spurs have been really good offensively the last three weeks," Coach says. "They like to score, they're just playing out the string, there's not a lot of pressure."
McClure, who is on an amazing 24-5 run, has a pair of picks, the first in Major League Baseball: The Athletics -1.5 (-110) against the Orioles (4:07 p.m. ET). "They're facing left-handed pitcher Bruce Zimmerman, who might be the worst starting pitcher in Major League Baseball this season," he says. "This Oakland A's team hits for power, especially against left-handed pitching."
His second play is in NASCAR's Buschy McBusch Race 400: Kyle Larson (+110) over Denny Hamlin at Kansas Speedway (3 p.m. ET). "This is a setup that Kyle Larson is going to excel at," McClure says. "He is very good on this type of track."
Coach comes back with a pair of plays in the PGA's Valspar Championship. The first is Bubba Watson (-150) over Brandt Snedeker (1:25 p.m. ET). "Bubba's playing really good golf," he says. "Even his B game is better than Brandt Snedeker's A game."
His second pick is Charley Hoffman (-110) over Cameron Tringale (1:35 p.m. ET). "He was one of my picks for the week and he has not disappointed," Coach says of Hoffman. "He won a head-to-head for me personally yesterday, so I think he'll do it two days in a row.
Hartstein brings it home with a trio of picks, beginning with a pair of NBA prop bets. The first is Joe Harris of the Nets going Over 2.5 3-pointers (-135) against the Bucks (3:30 p.m. ET. "He's gone Over it in five of seven (games), he's gone Over it in four straight road games," he says. "The Bucks give up the fifth-most 3-pointers attempted in the league."
Larry's next bet is Tyrese Haliburton of the Kings going Over 7.5 assists against the Mavericks (8 p.m. ET). "No De'Aaron Fox again (for Sacramento)," Hartstein says. "That's been four games without him, (and Haliburton has had) eight, 10, eight and 10 assists."
Hartstein's final play is in Major League Baseball: The Astros (-135) over the Rays (1:10 p.m. ET. "The Rays just aren't scoring," he says. "A nine-game homestand, so far 20 total runs (and) seven runs in their last four games."
