Host Jonathan Coachman is joined by sports betting experts Larry Hartstein and Mike McClure on The Early Edge podcast. They give you their best bets for Major League Baseball, the NFL's Hall of Fame Game and tennis for Thursday, August 4.
The crew is fired up for the start of the NFL preseason Thursday night and is ready to get after it following a 9-4-1 day on the morning show and Early Edge in Five combined.
Coach starts off with the SportsLine Play of the Day, which is an NFL pick from the Raiders vs. Jaguars Hall of Fame Game (8 p.m. ET). The site is backing the Raiders -140 as they look to make a statement against a Jacksonville team just trying to figure things out before the regular season.
Mike has a tennis pick from the ATP Citi Open, backing Taylor Fritz -106 to win in straight sets against Dan Evans. "Taylor Fritz is very much emerging, very much having a career year," McClure says. Evans "is pesky, but towards the tail end of his career, in my opinion," Mike adds. Fritz should overpower Evans in the Round of 16 match.
Then it's time for Cash With The Coach, and the host has a trio of MLB picks. First, he is taking the Dodgers and Padres on the moneyline for a parlay that would pay +100. The Coach knows these teams will want to go into their weekend series against each other with momentum and expects them to finish off their series sweeps. Los Angeles is a -220 favorite against the Giants (3:45 p.m. ET), while the Padres are priced at -305 as they host the Rockies (4:10 p.m. ET).
Coachman also has another MLB pick, taking the Cardinals -150 at home against the Cubs (1:15 p.m. ET). He offered this play Wednesday before the game was postponed. "Why would we not go back to the well if everything is the same?" Coach says. "(Miles) Mikolas on the mound, minus 150? I'll take the Cardinals all day on the moneyline. Love it."
If The Maestro is on the show, you know he is wrapping things up, and Hartstein is backing the White Sox -130 against the Rangers (8:05 p.m. ET). The White Sox have "underperformed all season, but now they're getting it going," Larry says. Johnny Cueto gets the start for Chicago, and he has a 2.12 ERA over his last five starts. Chicago also pounds left-handed pitching, which should mean trouble for Texas rookie Cole Ragans.
