Today's picks: Astros-Red Sox ALCS Game 5 best bet, plus more NBA, NHL and college football picks for Wednesday

Jonathan Coachman is joined by top betting experts Larry Hartstein, Zack Cimini, Allie O'Neill and Justin Perri on the Early Edge podcast, powered by SportsLine. Get prime plays for the NBA, MLB playoffs, college football and NHL for Wednesday, Oct. 20.

The show starts with storylines that could affect the betting market on Wednesday, with Zack picking out Charlotte to break down from the first big NBA slate of the season. Larry turns to the NFL, analyzing the massive 18.5-point line in the Texans-Cardinals game on Sunday. Justin reflects on the Over coming out of nowhere to cash in the Astros-Red Sox ALCS game on Tuesday, going from 4 percent chance of cashing before the big missed-strike call to coming through for bettors by the time the final out was made.

Coach delivers the SportsLine Play of the Day, highlighting Coastal Carolina to cover as 5.5-point favorites against Appalachian State (7:30 p.m. ET). App State has struggled, while Coastal Carolina should perform again on national TV.

Allie then looks ahead to Thursday's NHL picks slate with just two games on the docket for Wednesday, rolling with the Washington Capitals -135 to beat the New Jersey Devils (Thu., 7 p.m. ET) after they did just that in all eight matchups last year.

Justin shares his favorite MLB pick of the day, going right back to Over 9.5 in Game 5 of the ALCS between the Red Sox and Astros (5:08 p.m. ET). Neither of Chris Sale and Framber Valdez "have been amazing," says Justin. "The Red Sox are probably looking to strike back. This is going to be the last game at Fenway in the series, so they really need to get this one to put some pressure on the Astros."

Zack is next with his three NBA picks for the day, starting with the Orlando Magic +6.5 against the San Antonio Spurs (8:30 p.m. ET). Zack believes the pressure is on Gregg Popovich and that a preseason matchup between the two teams could be indicative of what we'll see on Wednesday. He also like two favorites to cover: Trail Blazers -5 and Hornets -2.

Larry closes out the expert picks section with his best NBA bet of the day, backing the Philadelphia 76ers -3 against the New Orleans Pelicans. He thinks the team is responding well to the Ben Simmons situation in practice, and the Pels may struggle a bit with so many new faces in their first game.
