The Red River Rivalry doesn't carry a lot of juice this year due to the struggles of both teams, but I still trust Oklahoma to put up points and yards against a Texas defense that hasn't exactly impressed over the last year-plus. Give me Spencer Rattler and his 331 yards per game of total offense over a Texas program that seems to be breaking more and more by the day under Tom Herman.
Believe me, I know how difficult it is to trust either one of these teams right now. When I look at them, though, I see Texas as the team with the higher floor this week, while Oklahoma has the higher ceiling as the year goes on. So, right now, I want to be on the team with the senior QB in Sam Ehlinger. The QB who plays for the coach who has covered three of four meetings with Oklahoma.
The Sooners have won four of the past six in this rivalry, using their edge in firepower to fend off a spirited effort from the Longhorns. But after Texas basically sleep walked through a disastrous loss to TCU last week, another such performance will give coach Tom Herman's growing list of detractors even more fuel. This is a down year for Oklahoma by its recent standards, with a freshman QB going up against one of most experienced signal-callers in the country. Texas has the talent edge and has historically been reliable in these desperation spots.
