The Washington State Cougars have been one of the best at handling their schedule early in the season. In fact, they have not lost a non-conference game in the early phase of a season since 2016. It may take Houston a while to adjust to new coach Dana Holgorsen. Look for Mike Leach and Washington State to roll to another win and cover.
Houston has yet to surpass the total this season, but Friday's game at NRG Stadium in Houston should tilt the scales to the Over with two high- powered offenses. Washington State is averaging 606 yards in its first two games against weak opponents. Houston was able to put 31 points on the board in a cover against Oklahoma. The Over is the top play.
The public will likely remember the 49 points Houston yielded to Oklahoma in its season opener and assume the Cougars are destined to do the same. But there are plenty of Big 12 teams that will suffer the same fate against the Sooners, and Houston's defense isn't quite as bad as it looked against them. Meanwhile, Washington State takes a major step up after beating up on the likes of New Mexico State and Norther Colorado. The Cougars are typically poor in these spots under Mike Leach,ad Houston QB D'Eriq King might be the most explosive playmaker they face all year.
Washington State, ranked No. 20, is averaging 58.5 points a game so far this season. However, Wazzu has played New Mexico State and Northern Colorado of the FCS. Houston will be the first, real test this season for Washington State, with an explosive offense led by Heisman Trophy candidate D'Eriq King at quarterback. Also, Houston's defense is both athletic and aggressive and much better than anything Wazzu has faced. Take Houston.
