QUICK LANE BOWL -- The Ramblin' Wreck will usher in a new era in 2019. This is the sendoff for head coach Paul Johnson as his option-based attack takes on the Minnesota Golden Gophers. What will ultimately be the difference in this game is the Gophers' offense. They've been up-and-down all season long, and a lot of that inconsistency is within the passing game. At least you know what to expect when Tech hits the field. Consistency wins out; lay the points.
QUICK LANE BOWL -- Coach Paul Johnson is well-liked among his players, who are motivated to send him into retirement with a win. The Yellow Jackets could not have hand-picked a better scenario to do so. Two standout Gophers -- LB Blake Cashman, their leading tackler, and OT Donnell Green -- have opted out to aim for the NFL draft. The fate of about a half-dozen teammates, suspended from practice for team violations, is undisclosed. Simple matchup analysis: Tech led the nation in rushing, and Minnesota was punched for a combined 800-plus ground yards by Illinois and Nebraska, neither of them powerhouses.
QUICK LANE BOWL -- P.J. Fleck's bi-polar Minnesota club defeated Fresno State, Purdue and Wisconsin. It was also manhandled by Maryland, Illinois and Nebraska. Some inconsistency could be expected from one of the youngest rosters in the Power Five, but the Gophers took it to extremes. They fought hard to become bowl-eligible and their vulnerable defense faces a tough matchup against Georgia Tech's option attack. We're getting by far the worst of a number that opened at 3.5, but the money is moving in the right direction. Look for the Yellow Jackets to roll in the Quick Lane Bowl.
