HAWAII BOWL -- Louisiana Tech lost its last two games, three of four, and failed to cover all four. They're on a run of staying Under the total in their last five as well. Hawaii comes in winning their last two, including a win at San Diego State when they were getting +18. Hawaii QB Cole McDonald has been making plays all season for an underrated team and the home field isn't built into the number here. Hawaii gets the win.
HAWAII BOWL -- It is fashionable to side with the Rainbow Warriors in what amounts to a semi-automatic additional home game each season. The thinking is, the other team will treat it as a vacation. However, Hawaii is 4-3 straight-up in the bowl. This year’s team has covered once in five games as home favorites. Louisiana Tech’s impressive pass defense, ranked 32nd, is equipped to slow the Rainbows’ potent aerial attack. Coach Skip Holtz has won four straight bowls outright with La. Tech, three by margins of between 17 and 41. Amid the palm trees, he will have the Bulldogs ready.
HAWAII BOWL -- The Cole McDonald Heisman campaign hit the skids during the second half of the season, but the star Rainbow Warriors signal-caller still averaged 8.7 yards per attempt in November. Louisiana Tech's defense was solid during the regular season, but gave up 200+ passing yards in three of its last four games and McDonald is the best quarterback they'll play all season.
HAWAII BOWL -- Hawaii is essentially playing a home game here against Louisiana Tech in the Hawaii Bowl. What the Rainbow Warriors should be prepared for is an opportunistic secondary that does a great job of taking the ball away. The Bulldogs are also one of the best pass rushing teams in Conference USA. While Hawaii's offense can definitely keep pace with anyone, I worry about a defense that has gotten weaker as the season progressed.
HAWAII BOWL - This is a home game for Hawaii as it's the ninth time the Warriors have played in this game, and it's literally played in their home stadium. Still, even if that's the case, it's hard to trust a team that allowed over 35 points per game during the season, including more than 40 points per game against teams with winning records. Hawaii will get its points, but it won't do enough to keep LaTech from getting more.
