Purdue fought its way out of trouble on Monday at Honolulu vs. Gonzaga, battling its way back from a five-point halftime deficit. No-nonsense Tennessee, however, might present a more physical challenge, as the Vols dare Boilermakers other than Zach Edey to beat them. Northern Colorado transfer G Dalton Knecht has been a revelation for Rick Barnes, scoring at a 19 ppg clip and giving the Vols the deep-threat shooter they have been looking for (Knecht also 39% triples). Play Tennessee (at Honolulu)
Two 4-0 teams with each covering three times and they get to play in Hawaii. Each team has held their opponents to 35% shooting, but the shooting by Purdue at 51% to Tennessee’s 45% caught my eye. Purdue is shooting 41% from 3-land and allowing 21%. Purdue brought back almost everyone from last season while Tennessee has two starters returning and lost four key players. This early, big game, I like the comfort of Purdue’s experience. I’m on Purdue money-line.
