Miami allowed over 46 percent shooting during the season but has gone all-in on defense in the Tournament. The Hurricanes buried No. 2 seed Auburn in the second round because they held the Tigers to 30 percent shooting. In the Sweet 16, they pummeled Iowa State by limiting them to 37 percent shooting. The spread before the Tournament started would have been Kansas -6, and since I know so much more about Miami and its defensive efforts now, I took the points.
Miami features four sixth-year seniors, including Kam McGusty. He has 83 points over his last four games. The other starter, sophomore Isaiah Wong, has played in 94 games with 74 starts. Thanks in part to that experience, the 'Canes do not turn the ball over (sixth nationally in turnover rate). Their five-out offense, with Sam Waardenburg orchestrating as a "point-center," is extremely tough to prepare for on a quick turnaround. Kansas just played a completely different offense in Providence. While the Jayhawks have failed to cover five of their last six NCAA Tournament games (1-2 ATS this year), the Hurricanes are 10-1 ATS as underdogs this calendar year. Take the points.
