Wichita State has been a great bet overall this season at 6-2-1 ATS and 4-0 ATS on the road. The Shockers haven't played since Jan. 13, but that has allowed key reserves in junior guard Craig Porter (knee) and sophomore forward Clarence Jackson (back) to get healthy enough to return Thursday. Memphis, meanwhile, has averaged just 54.7 points its last three games and is shooting a horrid 29.6% on three-pointers in AAC play. Penny Hardaway's club is 1-4 ATS at home.
I graded Memphis very high at the beginning of the season. The defense has not disappointed, as the Tigers are ranked 11th in the nation. The offense has been a disappointment so far. Memphis is 2-9 ATS and hasn't lived up to its potential. But this is a game where the Tigers will come to play. Wichita State has played well for Isaac Brown, but Memphis will prove to be the more talented team.
The wrong team might be favored here, even with limited fans allowed to attend. In Memphis' last game, the Tigers committed 21 turnovers and had just nine assists in a one-point loss to Tulsa. That's the same Tulsa team that Wichita State just beat by 19. Memphis has failed to cover seven straight, while the Shockers are 6-0-1 ATS in their last seven. The Tigers continue to get too much respect in the line.
