We've got two of the best defenses in the nation hooking up and I expect each to have it on full display tonight. Texas Tech allowed just 58 ppg and a 36.7 shooting percentage from the field this season. Gonzaga held their opponents to 64 ppg and 38.7 percent from the field. The defenses will be the star here. Under is the play
As far as Gonzaga is concerned, they had trouble with St. Mary’s, and Texas Tech is tougher. They’re giving up 38 percent shooting, playing tremendous defense, they’ve got a guy like Jarrett Culver who’s really a good shooter and good distributor of the ball. In two of their last three games the Raiders have scored 72 and 78 points, so they’re not just defense. They’re going to slow down Gonzaga.
Texas Tech’s defense is second to none, swallowing up one foe after another. All three NCAA games have wound up Under. Gonzaga Isi 2-1 with Unders, and four of their last six outings have settled below the total. The Red Raiders will try to slow the pace to a semi-stall, and 140 seems like a tall target.
This is a classic Offense vs. Defense matchup. According to KenPom we have the most efficient offense in the country (Gonzaga) going against the most efficient defense (Texas Tech). I'd normally side with the defense here, but I don't think this is a great matchup for Tech. Gonzaga has a lot more size than the Red Raiders, and Tech's had a tendency to get foul-happy at times this season. I fear that could be the case against a bigger Gonzaga team, and the Zags are great at the free throw line. So I like them to cover here.
