Spencer Rattler next team transfer odds: Arizona State, Florida State, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, South Carolina lead favorites for ex-Oklahoma quarterback

A potential 2022 Heisman Trophy favorite is available via the transfer portal.

Oklahoma lost several top-rated recruits when coach Lincoln Riley shocked the college football world on Sunday by taking the Southern Cal job. The Sooners also took a hit with a handful of current players announcing they would enter the transfer portal, the most notable being quarterback and former Heisman Trophy betting favorite Spencer Rattler. SportsLine offers odds on where Rattler will play next season.

At one point, Rattler also was the betting favorite to be the first overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and in theory he could still declare for the draft, but his stock is incredibly low after losing his starting job following the Texas game to Caleb Williams, who led a comeback victory vs. the Longhorns in relief of Rattler and kept the gig going forward. He's the future at the program (unless of course he transfer, too, because Riley left).

Thus, Rattler was expected to transfer even if Riley hadn't left. Now you can get +5000 odds on Rattler as the No. 1 overall pick in next year's draft, by the way. He is hopeful to enroll at a new school in January and would have three years of eligibility remaining.

The clear favorite for his services has to be Arizona State because Rattler starred at Pinnacle High School in Phoenix (Tempe is a suburb). ASU does have a pretty good quarterback with eligibility left in Jayden Daniels, but he did regress this season and could turn pro. It's also no sure thing that coach Herm Edwards is back next year as ASU is facing potentially serious NCAA violations.

Rattler probably could start immediately at Arizona, but that program is an utter mess right now with one victory over the past two seasons. Going to a losing team isn't good for a quarterback's pro prospects. UCLA and Oregon are other West Coast/Pac-12 possibilities – but USC surely is not.

Texas A&M could be a national title contender next season, and Rattler would seem to be an upgrade over either Haynes King or Zach Calzada. Rattler could thrive in Lane Kiffin's offense at Ole Miss, assuming Kiffin stays there, and incumbent QB Matt Corral is off to the NFL.

Rattler has familiarity with South Carolina head coach Shame Beamer, who was the assistant head coach at Oklahoma from 2018-20 and actually has been rumored as a possible candidate to take over in Norman for Riley (as has Kiffin).

Reportedly, Florida State coach Mike Norvell already has made a trek to Norman to speak with Rattler and receiver Jadon Haselwood, who also has entered the portal. Notre Dame offered Rattler in high school; could Brian Kelly re-recruit him to LSU?
