Matt Ryan projections 2022: Fantasy stats, betting odds, Indianapolis Colts player profile, season outlook, simulations

The veteran QB looks to re-start his career and restore his fantasy value on a team built to win now

When it comes to immobile quarterbacks at 37 years old, usually that implies little to no fantasy football value. But Tom Brady has busted that stereotype for more than half a decade so there's hope for Matt Ryan in his move to Indianapolis. Ryan is eighth all-time in passing yards and seems likely to crack the top six with even an average season in 2022. Last year he missed the 4,000 yard passing mark by 32, the first time since 2010 he didn't achieve that milestone.

Going from a generally pass happy Atlanta offense to a run-focused Indianapolis attack isn't the best formula to fantasy football success but the outlook isn't entirely bleak for the Colts QB. Defenses might attempt to stack the box in order to keep the league's top rusher, Jonathan Taylor in check, which could leave single coverage on all his receivers. Michael Pittman is the most dynamic of the bunch but don't discount the importance of Nyheim Hines as one of the better pass catching threats out of the backfield.

By no means will Ryan be considered a weekly fantasy starter but he makes a lot of sense as a bye week fill-in as the Colts have a handful of seemingly generous matchups for QBs in the middle of the season (Jacksonville, at Las Vegas, Philadelphia, at Dallas). A 3,700 yard, 25 touchdown pass season would be considered a success for the veteran and likely would lead to an Indianapolis playoff berth as well.
