Aaron Rodgers 2023 NFL team odds: Four-time MVP emerges from darkness retreat, now favored to remain with Packers over Raiders, Jets, Titans

Could we have a resolution on Aaron Rodgers' future today?

Couldn't Aaron Rodgers have returned from his darkness retreat earlier this week to make a decision on his NFL future when there was no NBA (the league starts back up tonight) and it was rather slow in the sports world? Alas, Rodgers reportedly left a facility in Oregon on Wednesday and a decision on where he will play in next season could be imminent – assuming he doesn't retire, which no one expects. SportsLine offers updated odds on the four-time MVP's 2023 team.

The 39-year-old Rodgers completed his darkness retreat at Sky Cave on Wednesday, according to Scott Berman, who owns the facility on hundreds of acres of forested land in southern Oregon. According to ESPN, Berman said the room in which Rodgers spent his time is a partially underground structure with 300 square feet of space devoid of light, with a queen bed, bathroom and meditation mat on the floor. It is fully powered, so the lights can be turned on from inside the room if needed.

Rodgers had previously said he planned to spend four days and four nights at the facility but arrived Monday and then left Wednesday. Before entering the retreat, Rodgers had said he was hoping to "have a better sense of where I'm at in my life." He is under contract with the Packers for $59.465 million guaranteed if he plays in 2023.

Not too long ago, it almost seemed a forgone conclusion that the Packers were ready to move on from Rodgers and were prepared to trade him, but only to an AFC team so he couldn't haunt them potentially in the NFC playoffs for the next few years. However, Tom Pelissero of NFL Media and ESPN's Jeff Darlington both reported this week there's a good chance he will be back in Green Bay.

"If he wants to return to Green Bay and as long as he's fully bought in, the Packers want him back," Pelissero said. "They had good conversations after the season."

The Raiders, Jets and Titans have all been linked to Rodgers, but would have to surrender a high draft pick to get him. Derek Carr would cost nothing in free agency and is likely the Jets' fallback option. What the Raiders might do if they don't get Rodgers is a unclear, but Jimmy Garoppolo could be an option. Tennessee may simply choose to keep Ryan Tannehill for one more season.

If Rodgers is back with the Packers, they have a decision to make on backup quarterback and former first-round pick Jordan Love. He's under contract at a very cheap $2.3 million for 2023, but could hit free agency next offseason if the team doesn't pick up his rookie fifth-year option by the May 1 deadline. That would cost Green Bay more than $20 million in 2024 and would be guaranteed.

The Athletic's Matt Schneidman has reported there's "a chance" Love will request a trade and the Packers will grant it if Rodgers decides he wants to play in Green Bay in 2023. Love has made just one career NFL regular-season start.
