2023 NFL win totals: 49ers set highest in NFC at 11.5 victories despite Brock Purdy vs. Trey Lance quarterback question

Caesars Sportsbook has released all win totals for the coming season.

Apparently, Caesars Sportsbook oddsmakers got tired of waiting for the Packers and Jets to complete the Aaron Rodgers trade as they have released over/under 2023 NFL win totals for all 32 clubs, with the assumption that Rodgers will be playing in New York. Green Bay has a win total of 7.5 with Jordan Love as the starting quarterback. The San Francisco 49ers have the highest mark in the NFC at 11.5 despite both Brock Purdy and Trey Lance returning from serious injuries.

Kansas City, Cincinnati and San Francisco are all set at 11.5 wins. The Chiefs (Patrick Mahomes) and Bengals (Joe Burrow) are self-explanatory. Now that Jimmy Garoppolo in in Las Vegas, the Niners don't have a proven security blanket for either Lance or Purdy, who led the 49ers to a 7-1 record after taking over for an injured Garoppolo in Week 14.

"I think Brock has earned the right with the way he played that he's probably the leader in the clubhouse at that," GM John Lynch said at the annual owner meetings on Monday about Purdy. "I'll let Kyle make those kinds of decisions but I know when we talk, Brock has probably earned that right to be the guy. If we were to line up, he'd probably take that first snap."

Lance, a former third overall pick, will likely see first-team reps all offseason as Purdy is recovering from surgery for a torn UCL suffered in the NFC Championship Game. Purdy is not expected to be fully cleared until the second week of September. Lance is coming off a broken right ankle but should be able to suit up sometime during organized team activities. Thus, Lance will likely start Week 1 barring something unforeseen. The win total of 11.5 is the highest opening number for San Francisco since 2013, when they were also set at 11.5 and finished 12-4. Last year's team was set at 10 and finished 13-4.

Green Bay's win total of 7.5 would be its lowest since 2007. The Packers were also on that number to start the season and won 13 games in what would be Brett Favre's final season as the starter. The Packers were set at 8.5 wins in Rodgers' rookie season and 11 last year when they finished 8-9. The Jets, with Rodgers all but surely in the fold at this point, are set at 9.5 wins. It's their highest total since 2011, when they were set at 10. New York finished 8-8.

The longest drought to win a division title in the NFL belongs to Detroit, which last won the Central in 1993 (when it was the North). But the rising Lions do have the highest win total in the division at 9. Green Bay obviously is stepping back and Minnesota is set at 8.5 after winning the North last year with a 13-4 record.
