Dylan Cease has been pretty good overall for the Padres but he's still walking a lot of guys, and we have seen from his White Sox days that things can go off the rails quickly for him control-wise. Rox starter Austin Gomber has a 3.60 home ERA. Manny Machado has started to hit a bit for San Diego after a slow start but is apparently not starting.
Dylan Cease is looking solid so far this season and has gone six innings in each of his last three starts (while also striking out 7 in each of those games). He's only allowed one earned run over his last two starts. Gomber goes for the Rockies and he's clearly the inferior pitcher on a team with the inferior bullpen and overall lineup. We should see enough big innings from the Padres to cover this run line.
Dylan Cease is off to a great start and appears poised to have a big year, however 8 Ks is a big, especially on the road at Coors Field. Cease has yet to have 8 Ks in a game this season and his 12.6% SwStr% is the lowest it has been since the 2020 season. The Rockies would certainly qualify as a good matchup, however pitching at Coors is a tall order.
Colorado's pathetic start being overshadowed by some other awful ones, but they are 5-16 as I write this, and 11 of those losses were by 2 or more runs. The Padres are a far better and more competitive team and they have Dylan Cease on the mound, who has taken right to a chance to the NL. Austin Gomber, on the other hand, is getting lit up and the altitude will do him no favors. He has a career ERA of 5.00 at Coors Field. Rockies bats had a brief resurgence a week ago but I don't see much from them lately.
