NYON, Switzerland (AP) UEFA, the European soccer governing body, on Thursday placed Spain's Villarreal in the final of the Intertoto Cup because the team's semifinal opponent used an ineligible player. UEFA awarded Villarreal a 3-0 win, saying France's Troyes should not have allowed David Vairelles to play in Wednesday's semifinal second leg match. Troyes won 2-1 and advanced to the final because the first leg in Spain was a 0-0 tie. Vairelles, who came on as a substitute in the 83rd minute, was not registered with UEFA and wasn't eligible. Troyes can appeal the decision. Villarreal will face another Spanish team, Malaga, in the two-leg Intertoto Cup final on Aug. 13 and 27.
