DALLAS (AP) Ronnie O'Brien scored in the 21st minute of overtime Wednesday night to give the Dallas Burn a 1-0 victory over the Colorado Rapids in the quarterfinals of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

Paul Broome set up the winning score that O'Brien sneaked past goalkeeper David Kramer. O'Brien had replaced Joselito Vaca in the 71st minute of the game.

Colorado's best scoring opportunity in overtime came in the third minute when Mark Chung took a pass from Chris Henderson, but couldn't convert.

Four minutes later, Dallas couldn't capitalize on a nice exchange of passes. Edward Johnson dealt to O'Brien, who dished the ball off to Jorge Rodriguez in the middle of the box, but Rodriguez couldn't convert.

The Burn will play Los Angeles in the semifinals on Sept. 3. The Galaxy beat the San Jose Earthquakes 1-0 in overtime on Wednesday.

The Hunt Cup is the oldest annual soccer competition in the country. The tournament dates to 1914 and is open to all affiliated amateur and professional teams in the United States.

Both Dallas and Colorado are members of Major League Soccer, which has produced five of the last seven Hunt Cup champions.

The Rapids had an opportunity in stoppage time when Wes Hart received a pass deep in the box, but he was quickly swarmed by three Dallas defenders and missed the shot wide.
