| Outlook | After racing out
to a 12-4 start with a huge lead in the West, Coach Glenn "Mooch" Myernick's side fell apart
in the second half.
Since they were decimated by injuries, one would think that as long as they
stay healthy, they could be pretty good this year.
Gone are
streaky forward Wolde Harris, defenders Matt
McKeon and Peter Vermes, along with
goalkeeper Ian Feuer.
Myernick had the good fortune of drafting imposing Olympic goalkeeper Adin Brown who
will be an immediate starter and
no doubt develop into the premier goalkeeper in
the league.
The heart of the team centers around Swedish playmaker Anders Limpar, who
will look to set up Panamanian goalscorer Jorge Dely Valdes and newcomer
Henry Zambrano. Midfielders Paul Bravo,
Ross Paule and ex-D.C. United youngster Jason Moore could round out a
solid offense.
The aging Marcelo Balboa will anchor an average defense with Joey
DiGiamarino, Tahj Jakins and newcomer Scott Vermillion while Jason Bent
recovers from injury.
If they can recover from an injury-plagued preseason and stay healthy, the
Rapids are a good, well-rounded team. If not, these Rapids are not deep
enough to stem the tide.
