TUCSON, Ariz. -- Center Loren Woods, recovering from two back surgeries, has been cleared to play basketball this season for Arizona.

"He's been given full clearance, from scrimmaging and going all out," associate head coach Jim Rosborough told the Tucson Citizen on Monday. "What it really allows him to do is play basketball hard again."

Woods, a 7-foot-1 senior, missed the last 1½ months of the season because his back was weakened by valley fever. He underwent two surgeries in April.

Woods received the news Sunday and was said to be "very happy because all his hard work paid off," team trainer Ed Orr said.

After the surgeries, Woods lost about 25 pounds but has put most of it back on.
