Loyola-Maryland
MAAC reportSportsLine.com Report A glance at 2001Damien Jenifer, who took over for Jason Rowe after his midseason suspension, will remain as the point guard, and only has to solve his turnover problems. Backcourt mate Anthony Walker is the team's best 3-point shooter, while 6-foot-7 Donovan Thomas stepped into the limelight. Brian Carroll, another of the league's top shot blockers, returns, helping form a sound frontline. The CoachAfter four years without a winning season, Dino Gaudio resigned as head coach on May 17. On June 6, Loyola announced that Scott Hicks had been named the 19th head coach in the 88-year history of its men's basketball program. Hicks, 34, comes to the Greyhounds after three years as the head coach at Albany. Who'll Be BackCarroll and Thomas are good forwards, and the possible return of Clifford Strong from injury would really help. Delonnie Southall showed promise as a freshman. Ryan Blossar and Apostolis Nasiou, both seniors-to-be, will add depth. Jenifer and Walker return as the team's guards, while Brant Mack provides insurance. Who's GoneRowe is gone officially, although that is no surprise anymore. Jerome Adams, a solid backup who won a pair of Loyola's games with his hot shooting, moves on, while top forward Blanchard Hurd, who was playing as a graduate student, also departs. Key NewcomersBefore resigning, Gaudio added another name to the frontcourt mix in Waldwick, New Jersey's Greg McBain (6-9, 220). The biggest additions are at guard, starting with Dan Anderson (6-0, 195), a Lenoir, NC product who will push Jenifer for time and John Reimold (6-6, 220), a Greenville, Pa. native with good size for a shooting guard. |
