Round 1 Lumberjacks' upset bid falls short L 56-61

SportsLine.com Report
March 18, 2000

A Glance at 2001

Eleven players return, but it's those who are lost that will hurt. Shooter deluxe Ross Land and post Dan McClintock graduate, leaving two huge holes on the outside and inside.

Cory Schwab will probably replace Land as the designated shooter. Someone needs to step up in the post. Adam Lopez is back at point and Ryan McDade is strong at forward, but most of the players are far too inexperienced.

The Lumberjacks didn't sign anyone in the early signing period and have two scholarships to give in April's late period.

Coach Mike Adras will earn his pay next season.

The Coach

Adras will return after an excellent first season that included an 11-game winning streak and the NCAA Tournament berth. He's kept former coach Ben Howland's successful outside shooting system in place.

Who'll be Back

Cory Schwab (9.3 points) is the biggest offensive weapon returning. He can launch the 3-pointers and he'll be counted on to possibly double his scoring output next season.

Adam Lopez, a 6-0 guard, is solid at the point; and Ryan McDade, a 6-7 forward, will probably move into the starting lineup. There's not a lot of experience or strength in the post coming back.

Who's gone

Land and McClintock are the two huge losses, but steady forward Billy Hix is also gone.
