EDITOR'S NOTE: The College Cheerleader of the Week photo gallery is posted every Tuesday for your viewing pleasure. Voting for each week ends Monday at noon EST. Each week's winners become eligible for a playoff spot and compete for the overall title of SPiN's College Cheerleader of the Year.

Voting results: Arkansas 79%; Alabama 9%; Virginia Tech 6%; Ohio State 5%; Colorado 2% Welcome back, college football fans. So far, the first batch of games have been worth the months long wait -- we've seen Michigan upset in its home field, some shutouts and of course, plenty of lopsided blowouts. Sure beats a summer's worth of professional cup stacking, the Barry Bonds home run chase, David Beckham mania, Faceball and the Redbull Flugtag, right? Well, you've gotta admit it, Faceball and the Redbull Flugtag were pretty cool. But you know what else trumps college football? Cheerleaders. The cameras always pan to them after every big play and touchdown, and before the prerequisite beer commercial. That's why we're bringing this popular feature back from last year. If you didn't read the italicized note above the photo (don't worry, I know a cheerleader photo gets noticed over italicized text 10 out of 10 times), the rules are very simple:
The weekly winners qualify in a playoff tournament, where cheerleaders are seeded according to the number of votes they received in the regular season. The cheerleader who comes out on top in the end is crowned SPiN's College Cheerleader of the Year. Last year's tournament winner was a Week 1 cheerleader representing UCLA. Here's her photo in case you've forgotten. So have fun, and vote often. Oh, and one last thing: Dancers and band members in visually appealing attire also qualify in this contest. Cheerleaders don't get solo credit for rooting for their school, you know.
