TURIN, Italy (AP) -Fabrizio Miccoli and Levan Mchedlidze scored Sunday to give Palermo a 2-1 win over Juventus in Serie A.
Palermo's victory, its first against Juventus in Turin in 47 years, gives the team 12 points, one less than league leaders Lazio, Udinese and Inter Milan.
Miccoli put Palermo ahead with his fifth goal of the year in the 24th minute and then exited the game five minutes later with an injury sustained on the play. Alessandro Del Piero pulled Juventus even in the 39th with a free kick from just outside the area that curved around the barrier.
Juventus played the entire second half a man down after Mohamed Sissoko got a second yellow in the 41st, and Palermo finally managed to take advantage of its extra man in the 81st when Mchedlidze, an 18-year-old Georgian, took a low pass from Fabio Simplicio and beat Gianluigi Buffon.
"A loss at home hits us hard," Juventus coach Claudio Ranieri said. "We were coming off three draws and wanted the victory, but the whole game was an uphill climb. It is a tough time for us, but we have the desire and will to turn things around."
Del Piero got the start because of injuries to David Trezeguet and Vincenzo Iaquinta and came close to scoring on another free kick in the second half that went wide.
Juventus strengthened its attack with the signing of Amauri from Palermo in the offseason, but the team has netted just five goals in six games - 10 less than at the same point last season.
Also, AC Milan could only manage a 0-0 draw with Cagliari, which got its first point of the season after five losses. Milan was coming off three straight wins in Serie A and two in the UEFA Cup after starting the season with two loses.
"After five wins in a row, a small stumble can happen," said Milan captain Paolo Maldini. "Our start to the season was disastrous, but we have been playing well and a game like this can happen."
After defeating three-time defending champion Inter 1-0 last week, Milan's all-Brazilian attack of Kaka, Ronaldinho and Alexandre Pato was unable to break through the Cagliari defense that had given up a league-worst 10 goals in five games.
Andriy Shevchenko and Filippo Inzaghi came on for Milan to replace Ronaldinho and Pato for the last 20 minutes, but were unable to spark the offense.
The draw leaves Milan with 10 points while Cagliari remains in last place with one point.
Fabio Quagliarella scored a goal in each half to give Udinese a 2-0 win over visiting Torino and a spot at the top of the standings. Torino had scored in every game this year.
