STUTTGART, Germany (AP) -Bayern Munich players celebrated their 1-1 draw against Lyon in the Champions League as if they had won the match. The Bundesliga champion will take anything it can get these days.
The players piled on top of coach Juergen Klinsmann after Ze Roberto had scored the equalizer in the second half.
After two straight defeats in the Bundesliga, Tuesday's result was a welcome respite for Klinsmann and his players.
Klinsmann is coming under increased scrutiny only a few weeks into his first club coaching position. He took Germany to a third-place finish at the 2006 World Cup at home, but has never coached a club before taking over Germany's most successful - and demanding - team.
The players may have been demonstrating their support for the coach with their celebration but some of the fans were not fooled - there were whistles mixed with cheers. After all, Bayern did not win the game.
"It was impressive how the team performed," Klinsmann said. "We could have won by two or three goals. Now we have something to make up for on Saturday."
Bayern, the defending champion, plays Bochum at home Saturday and will be looking to improve its 50 percent record. Six games into the championship, Bayern is ninth at eight points, five behind leader Hamburger SV.
Klinsmann has been experimenting with his lineup, raising some eyebrows in Munich.
He left several starters off the team in Hannover before the Champions League and lost 1-0, following a 5-2 hammering by Werder Bremen at home. Against Lyon, Klinsmann could not afford another loss.
"There is some tension in our ranks," striker Miroslav Klose acknowledged.
Klinsmann left captain Mark van Bommel on the bench against Lyon, the third game the man Klinsmann himself picked as captain has missed in recent weeks.
"I am glad we got a draw, otherwise I have nothing to say," said Van Bommel, who has looked unhappy.
Leader Hamburg, which has 13 points, travels Sunday to Energie Cottbus, while second-place Bayer Leverkusen (12) hosts Hertha Berlin on Saturday.
Werder Bremen has scored 10 goals in the last two Bundesliga games and after a slow start it is catching up with the leaders. Next it plays in Stuttgart, which is hoping to bounce back after a 3-0 loss at Borussia Dortmund.
Stuttgart needs the three points to make progress in the standings. It is now seventh with 10 points, while Bremen is in third place with 11 points, ahead on goal difference over Schalke and Borussia Dortmund.
Schalke hosts Wolfsburg on Sunday when Dortmund also plays Hannover.
In other games Saturday, it's Borussia Moenchengladbach vs. Cologne and Hoffenheim vs. Eintracht Frankfurt. Arminia Bielefeld plays Karlsruhe on Friday.
