SYDNEY, Australia (AP) -Sydney remained unbeaten after five rounds of Australian football's A-League with a 3-0 weekend win over an understrength Adelaide United.
Terry McFlynn scored in the second minute, Alex Brosque added another in the 35th and Brendon Santalab completed the scoring in the 79th on Saturday as Sydney improved to three wins and two draws.
Adelaide returned from Japan just 36 hours before the game after playing in the Asian Champions League quarterfinals, where it drew 1-1 against Kashima Antlers.
With Kashima making the return trip to Adelaide on Wednesday, Adelaide United coach Aurelio Vidmar fielded just three players from his starting lineup from last Wednesday's match.
Sydney coach John Kosmina questioned Adelaide's decision, but said his team played well regardless.
"The way that we played took all the sting out of Adelaide," he said. "We moved the ball around really well.
"A-League is about having a squad of players and all of the people in that squad have got to be able to stand up. So you have got to question Adelaide's priorities ... the A-League or the ACL (Asian Champions League)."
Ten-man Melbourne Victory scored deep in stoppage time to force a 2-2 draw at Central Coast Mariners.
Matt Simon scored twice for the hosts, but Archie Thompson's second goal of the match five minutes into stoppage time kept Melbourne level with Sydney in first place with identical records and 11 points each.
Melbourne goalkeeper Michael Theoklitos was sent off in the 58th minute after jostling with Sasho Petrovski in the box before a corner kick. Theoklitos started jumping on the spot, catching the striker's foot, and the referee showed no hesitation in giving the 'keeper a straight red card.
At the other end, former Aston Villa goalkeeper Mark Bosnich continued his comeback with two strong saves for the Mariners, twice denying Victory striker Danny Allsopp from point-blank range.
The 36-year-old Bosnich, who also played for Manchester United and Chelsea, signed a seven-week deal to replace the suspended Danny Vukovic. Seven years ago, Bosnich's English Premier League career was cut short by revelations of drug use.
On Friday, striker Joel Griffiths scored in the 84th minute to give the Newcastle Jets a 1-0 win over the Queensland Roar at Brisbane. It was Newcastle's first win of the season after three draws and a loss.
In a match Sunday involving previously winless teams, Eugene Dadi's 78th-minute penalty gave Perth a 1-0 victory over the Wellington Phoenix. The result moved the Glory out of the cellar and into seventh place, leapfrogging Wellington.
