Dinamo Kiev draws with Arsenal 1-1

KIEV, Ukraine (AP) -Arsenal drew Dinamo Kiev 1-1 thanks to William Gallas' 88th-minute equalizer in their Champions League match on Wednesday.

Ismael Bangoura scored from the penalty spot in the 64th minute after Bacary Sagna fouled Ognjen Vukojevic in the box. Then Gallas scored from close range off Theo Walcott's cross.

"The game was a mixture of frustration and relief," Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said. "I felt our level dropped in the second half and we did not create many chances."

Arsenal was in control of the Group G match in the middle of the pitch in the first half, slowing down Dinamo down and denying its attempts to attack.

Robin van Persie almost gave Arsenal an early lead just two minutes into the game but his shot from inside the box was blocked by goalkeeper Stanislav Bogush.

Emmanuel Adebayor dribbled past two Dinamo defenders but fired over the crossbar in the 19th.

Arsenal had one more clear opportunity before halftime, when Van Persie put Cesc Fabregas one-on-one with Bogush, but the Arsenal midfielder fired right into the goalkeeper.

Soon after the interval, Dinamo's Roman Eremenko had a chance but Manuel Almunia denied his angled shot from the right.

Bogush blocked Van Persie's shot which ricocheted off Fabregas in the 58th.

The home side then dominated.

"They played with great spirit, they were well organized and defended every ball," Wenger said. "But they were not really dangerous in attack."

Vukojevic was to meet a cross from the right when Sagna fouled him, leading to the first goal.

Wenger made two substitutions and Arsenal pressed for an equalizer.

Bogush tipped away Adebayor's header off a corner kick in the 83rd before Gallas, left unmarked, leveled.

"It was our mistake," Dinamo coach Yuri Syomin said. "A team like Arsenal will never forgive such mistakes."

FC Porto beat Fenerbahce 3-1 on Wednesday to take the group lead.

Arsenal next will host Porto on Sept. 30 while Dynamo will be at Fenerbahce.
