BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) -Red Star Belgrade has fired coach Zdenek Zeman after a string of poor results to start the season.
Zeman was fired at an emergency meeting with club officials late Saturday, the Tanjug state news agency said. No replacement was immediately announced for the Czech coach, who took over Serbia's most popular club in June.
The 1991 European Cup winner is off to its worst start ever this season, failing to get a win in its first three matches in the Serbian league while being eliminated from the UEFA Cup by Cypriot club Apoel.
Serbian media held former Red Star player Vladimir Petrovic or former Romania star Gheorghe Hagi as likely candidates for the coaching job.
