ZURICH, Switzerland (AP) -Markus Siegler resigned as FIFA communications chief Friday because of differences with senior management.
"My decision to seek a new challenge was difficult and finally due to differing opinions about the future structure and direction, yet marked by mutual respect," Siegler said in a statement.
Siegler was appointed head of corporate communications in 2001. A year later, the Swiss became an executive director and a member of FIFA's management board.
"We had a sound relationship based on trust and mutual respect throughout the years," FIFA president Sepp Blatter said. "We regret that Markus has decided to leave and wish him the very best for his future."
The 49-year-old Siegler said that despite the differences, he was leaving at the end of September "as a friend and on good terms."
FIFA spokesman Andreas Herren will take over the communications division on an interim basis, FIFA said.
