MEDICAL WATCH:

1B Kevin Youkilis (swollen right eye) left the June 23 game.

RHP Curt Schilling (sore right shoulder) began experiencing discomfort during the offseason, and he opened the season on the 60-day disabled list. He began throwing in early May, and he threw off a mound for the first time June 4. He experienced a setback in mid-June, and he had season-ending surgery June 23.

RHP Bartolo Colon (lower back stiffness) went on the 15-day disabled list June 17.

RHP Daisuke Matsuzaka (right shoulder fatigue, rotator cuff strain) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to May 28. He made a rehab start for Class AAA Pawtucket on June 16, and he rejoined the Boston rotation on June 21.

RHP Mike Timlin (left knee tendinitis) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to June 17.

DH David Ortiz (tear in left wrist tendon sheath) went on 15-day disabled list retroactive to June 1. He will miss at least a month, and he might need season-ending surgery. Ortiz was fitted with a soft cast on June 16 and was expected to swing a bat -- considered a real test with this particular injury -- by the end of June.
