Joe Pa's main function at this point is being a legend and a recruiting machine.  I'm assuming that his staff actually does all of the coaching and he is there mainly for motivation.  I don't necessarily see anything wrong with the set up, but the program would probably be better off if he continued doing what he does (recruit, motivate) away from the sidelines and handed the head coach title to someone else.

Btw Doyel, nice work on Rome the other day.  You were torching USC like a champ!

Doyel, bold move taking on the Penn State fans, heck they think Matt Millan is NFL executive of the year. In any event, since you were to kind to point out the obvious, Joe should have retired when he sh-- himself on the sidelines or when they moved him up in the press box during the games for nap time. The good news is along as his out of control assistants are recruiting the team will have the cleanest stadium in college football. Good luck taking the heat from these fanatics, after all they have Arlan Specter as their Senator.

Seriously, that hideously obese tub of lard probably won't be around in 5 years.  If you're pulling down that amount of jack, why don't you at least have the self respect to consider a stomach staple?  I can't imagine being an 18 year old great athlete that would be willing to put it all out there for someone who can't walk through the tunnel without wheasing.

Great idea.  Let's replace him with someone making 10 times a much who will cheat do whatever it takes to win.  To heck with years of service, dedication, integrity, honesty, and commitment to the university and STUDENT athletes.  Let's be more like USC and recruit a bunch of OJ Mayos

The funny thing about Paterno is that even though he is like 1,000,000 years old, he is still better than 90% of the coaches in d-I. He always has a competitors chance at winning, no matter if the recruits are there or not. Do you not forget Doyel, two or three years ago he had a chance at another title(Mich ended that on that amazing play). Instead of asking him to retire, how about ask him to try harder to get guys like Pryor, and he could be the oldest coach to ever win the NC. Joe Pa is great and it is you Doyel who should retire. Why dont you stop writing about sports you have no clue about?? College basketball....your articles were so garbage.....College Football....even more garbage. Do you realize you are writing for a sports site where people actually know what they are talking about? Go to ESPN or SI if you want to write this shit, otherwise look at the past and realize the guy is still doing a hell of a job(and not for 4 million a year like SABAN). He is the last bit of old school left in NCAAF his side of the mason-dixon.
