I love me some Hansbrough

Posted on: April 25, 2008 4:24 pm

By the time he's finished at North Carolina -- a process that will take all four years, we have now learned -- Tyler Hansbrough will go down as the most decorated player in college basketball history. Beats the hell out of being picked 29th overall in the 2008 NBA draft, doesn't it?

There has never been a player earn a spot on the first-team Associated Press All-American team for four straight years, but Hansbrough will accomplish that goal in about 11 months when he does it for a fourth time. He also will become the ACC's career scoring leader, passing J.J. Redick, and will have a shot at reaching 3,000 career points.

Good for you, Tyler Hansbrough.

As for you, Wayne Ellington, get your scrawny butt back to school. You're no Joseph Forte -- who, if you didn't know, was no NBA player.

Ellington's midrange game would work wonders in the NBA if he were 6-foot-8. But he's 6-4, and he's not a point guard, which means he has no shot of being an impact NBA player now. And maybe not ever. So get back to school.

And tell Tywon Lawson to join you. Lawson, like Ellington, was a great high school player who has become a very good college player who is a marginal pro at best. So follow the lead of Hansbrough and stay in school, fool.

Doyel if Lawson and Ellington don't follow your brilliant advice and decide to stay in the draft, what do you think of UNC's title chances next year? Still a pre-season #1? A starting line up of Frasor, Ginyard, Green, Thompson and Hansbrough doesn't look to bad on paper considering thats 4 seniors and 1 junior. And that seems like a much better perimeter defensive team with Green and Frasor in there (Roy repeatedly said Bobby was his 2nd best defensive player last December before he got injured).

If they all come back, we're looking at -- on paper, and maybe on the court -- one of the best teams of all-time.

Also, if i'm not mistaken, Hansbrough was a 3rd team AP All American selection his freshman year. He was named 1st team by the Sporting News and was a Rupp 1st teamer though.

I agree. Ellington is not ready physically. and there are too many guards rated just as good as Lawson

I love me some Hansbrough

I have to completely disagree with you on this one Greg. Tyler Hansbrough is the epitome of the reason why I hate college basketball. Yes, he will go down as one of the most decorated players in college basketball history, but so what. He plays in a watered down NCAA that simply can't be compared generationally. Just the fact that he will eventually be the all-time leading scorer for such a prestigious conference should make you want to vomit. This is the same conference that produced James Worthy, Michael Jordan, David Thompson, Ralph Sampson, Brad Daugherty, Vince Carter, TIm Duncan.....I could go on, but I won't. And now Tyler "Psyco frickin T" (god is that a dumb nickname) Hansbrough is the all-time leading scorer.

I hate everything about Tyler Hansbrough. From the laudatory crap spewed from dopey Jay Bilas about how Tyler might not be more talented but he's just as competitive as Michael Jordan. To Dick Vitale practically ejaculating all over himself about the kid. Tyler is everything that is wrong and mediocre about NCAA basketball. I hate me some Hansbrough.

ScoreFace, how 'bout giving legitimate reason why you hate Hansbrough? You hate him because he is about to pass (or has passed) a lot of really good players on the all-time scoring list? You hate him because because most of the commentators really like him. Does it seem fair to hate a kid because other people like him?  Oh, and the NCAA is watered down? Bullsh!t!!  The Ncaa is the only place now to watch real basketball, not that glorified pick-up game known as the NBA.

Hansbrough was First Team AP All-American all three years thusfar. He wasn't 3rd team freshman year.

Doyel, I couldn't agree with you more about your assessment of each player.
