SPRING OBJECTIVES
Virginia Tech has a lot of rebuilding to do on both sides of the ball, but especially on defense. Wide receiver is wide open on offense, where four seniors handled the responsibilities the last four years. The Hokies also have an issue at quarterback, though it may not be all bad. They will have to decide if they want to continue the dual system with Sean Glennon and Tyrod Taylor sharing responsibilities or go with one. The hope is that Taylor will have matured enough to take over most of the playing time.

BUILDING BLOCKS
Glennon and Taylor give Tech two experienced quarterbacks, which is a good place to start. Four returning starters -- LG Nick Marshman, C Ryan Shuman, RG Sergio Render and RT Ed Wang -- give the Hokies an experienced front on offense. Four starters -- DE Orion Martin, LB Cam Martin, ROV Kam Chancellor and CB Macho Harris -- return on defense.

SCHEDULE SITUATION
The Hokies get their first three games at home, including their ACC opener against Georgia Tech on Sept 13. They open against East Carolina on Aug. 30 and then entertain Furman on Sept. 6. The card offers an opportunity for a quick start before the Hokies go on the road for games against North Carolina and Nebraska.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"During recent meetings with Branden Ore, we have decided that it would be best for Branden to pursue other opportunities. Branden has had many great moments here at Virginia Tech, and we wish him well in the future." -- Coach Frank Beamer, on the departure of TB Branden Ore.
