Bob Stoops' weekly press luncheon was spent, primarily, talking about Texas Tech and special teams. The Red Raiders are ranked No. 2 and the Sooners No. 5, both have one weekend off before meeting Nov. 22.

There is a history. Texas Tech has won two of the last three meetings between the two teams, though both Red Raider victories came in Lubbock. The upcoming game will be in Norman.

Also, Tech coach Mike Leach was originally Oklahoma's offensive coordinator, spending one season in Norman before leaving for Tech prior to OU's playing in the Independence Bowl. He and Bob Stoops remain friends and speak frequently.

As for special teams, Stoops appears to be at his wit's end. Asked if he has any more personnel moves he can make with his kickoff defense, he said he was out of options, all that's left is more practice. He is facing the same issue with placekicking, though he said he's not losing any sleep over the ordeal because what good would that do.

Of greater interest to the Sooner Nation, however, is the luck of the BCS draw, which may not only determine who plays in the national championship game, but in the Big 12 championship game, too.

Should OU (9-1, 5-1 Big 12) beat Texas Tech (10-0, 6-0) and Oklahoma State the following week, and Texas wins out and Tech win its final regular-season game, the Sooners, Red Raiders and Longhorns would each finish the conference season 7-1, with Texas beating OU, Tech beating Texas and OU beating Tech. In that scenario, the Big 12 championship game's South division entrant would be the highest-rated BCS team of the three.

Stoops is ambivalent about the process.

"Do you have a better system?" he quipped Tuesday.
