--The hiring of university administrator Bob Krause as Kansas State's new athletic director was viewed as a way to eliminate the middle man if a move was made to remove coach Ron Prince. However, it could also be a way to retain Prince since Krause acknowledged that a contract extension is in the works for the third-year coach, who stands 12-13 after two seasons.

--Prince was allowed to back out of a nonconference home game against Fresno State and replace it with a visit from Montana State, an FCS program. The game against Fresno State was originally part of a two-for-one. The Bulldogs, a non-BCS program expected to contend in the WAC, won the only two games played as part of the deal, including a 45-29 decision to end the 2007 season.

SPRING MOVERS

RB Keithen Valentine - A walk-on who played JUCO football for Mississippi Delta Community College, Valentine was the only real offensive spark in the spring game, gaining 104 yards on 15 carries for a 6.9-yard average.

DE Ian Campbell - After playing outside linebacker in the 3-4 scheme Kansas State implemented last season, Campbell returned to end, where he is expected to regain the productivity he enjoyed in 2006, when he led the Big 12 with 17.5 tackles for loss.

QB Josh Freeman - The spring included some new lessons for Freeman, a junior who will be a third-year starter in 2008. The Wildcats experimented with a no-huddle look, which gives Freeman something else to think about as he works on his passing touch.

LB Reggie Walker - A swift linebacker who is adept at pass coverage, Walker is also trying to become a more disruptive force in the backfield. He was credited with 2.5 tackles for loss in the spring game.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"We're really embarrassed by the end of last season, but we're definitely hungry on what we want to do this year, Coach (Ron Prince) is just trying to make sure that we don't get too full of ourselves." - Kansas State S Chris Carney.
