Warriors report: Inside slant
The race for one of the most glamorous jobs in college sports -- Hawaii quarterback -- was a dead heat at the end of spring ball. Senior Tyler Graunke, who was the backup last year, and mobile junior Inoke Funaki battled through the spring. Junior college transfers Brent Rausch and Greg Alexander join the race in the fall. Funaki was 12 of 18 for 145 yards and two touchdowns with two carries for 45 yards in the spring game. Graunke was 10 of 14 for 180 yards and a touchdown with an interception. "They are sliced," coach Greg McMackin told the Honolulu Advertiser. "Nobody is ahead." Graunke returned to compete for the job after being suspended from the team for most of the winter. He indicated the suspension was related to his academics. Copyright (C) 2008 The Sports Xchange. All Rights Reserved. |
