Chippewas report: Strategy and personnel
STARS OF 2008: QB Dan LeFevour -- The Chippewas' fortunes rise or fall on the performance of their star quarterback who had a record-setting season in 2007. LeFevour accounted for 4,774 yards of total offense, passed for 27 touchdowns and rushed for another 19. LeFevour has the decision-making ability to go with the skills to take his game to the next level whenever he is ready. WR Bryan Anderson -- Anderson followed up a terrific freshman season by leading Central Michigan last season with 1,132 yards receiving and 10 touchdowns. A solid possession receiver who has deceptive breakaway speed. WR/KR Antonio Brown -- Last season's MAC Freshman of the Year led the Chips' high-powered offense with a school-record 102 receptions and led the team with 2,267 all-purpose yards. RB Justin Hoskins -- Took over as Central Michigan's leading backfield performer while Ontario Sneed struggled to overcome a nagging ankle injury. Finished the season with 644 yards and 10 touchdowns while averaging 5.8 yards per carry. DB Josh Gordy -- Like the rest of Central Michigan's secondary last season, Gordy struggled with injuries but when healthy was a dangerous presence in the secondary. He led Central Michigan with four interceptions, returning one for a touchdown. TOP NEWCOMERS OL Joe McMahon -- Sat out last season after transferring from Iowa State. Has the size (6-3, 285) and athleticism to become an anchor on the Chippewas' offensive line this season. CB Lorenzo White Jr. -- White could find himself playing this season for the Chips, who are looking for immediate impact in their defensive secondary. White, son of former Michigan State standout Lorenzo White Sr., is a playmaker, something that was lacking in last year's secondary. DL John Williams -- A sack specialist in high school, the Florida recruit will get a shot at significant playing time. RB Jahleel Addae -- Another one of Central Michigan's Sunshine State recruits, Addae will get looks at RB and potentially as a slot WR. ROSTER REPORT --Calvin Hissong is tentatively slated for a move from DB to OLB to bolster the Chips linebacking corps, which saw the departure of two key performers (Red Keith and Ike Brown) after the 2007 season. Hissong, a junior, is also recovering from offseason shoulder/neck surgery. --Junior DE Larry Knight is recovering from offseason knee surgery and will likely be held out of spring drills or contact. --DT Casey Droscha, a senior, had offseason elbow surgery and will likely be held out of spring practice.
