Bearcats report: Getting inside
Binghamton will have a new look in coach Kevin Broadus' second season. Ten new players are coming into the program, the kind of mass infusion of talent that helped Maryland-Baltimore County win the America East last season. While it is hard to imagine the Bearcats winning the conference, they should be improved over last season because of the influx of talent that joins returning backcourt starters Reggie Fuller, a senior, and Chretien Lukasa, a sophomore. Fuller can play both inside and outside and averaged 6.6 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.3 blocked shots a game last season. Lukasa, who scored 4.3 points a game, is likely to lose playing time. The transfer who should make the most immediate impact is junior point guard Emanuel "Tiki" Mayben, who spent last season at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, N.Y., after beginning his collegiate career with one season at Massachusetts. Senior forward Sean Watson, who transferred from Howard Junior College in Texas, started his college career at Montana. He should pick up much of the scoring slack left when forward Lazar Trifunovic transferred to Radford after leading Binghamton with an average of 14.0 points a game last season. Junior guard Malik Alvin, a transfer from Chipola Junior College in Florida, and sophomore center Theo Davis, a transfer from Gonzaga, should step right into the rotation once they become eligible in late December. Saint Joseph's transfer D.J. Rivera, a sophomore forward, is also expected to see significant playing time. Senior guard Dwayne Jackson, one of the program's few holdovers, will again be a key reserve after averaging 8.5 points a game and shooting 82 percent from the foul line last season. Senior center Jaan Montgomery and sophomore guard Brandon Herbert also will help off the bench. Copyright (C) 2008 The Sports Xchange. All Rights Reserved. |
