Capitals report: Inside shots
The Caps showed their depth in the first three games -- and it's something the rest of the NHL isn't going to be happy to see. For the first part of Alex Ovechkin's career, the Caps fared as he did. But that's not the case anymore. They've got Mike Green, Alexander Semin, Nicklas Backstrom, Michael Nylander, Brooks Laich and several others who can score points. Several of the key players notched points in Monday's 5-1 rout of Vancouver. The Caps are showing an even more impressive combination of speed and skill on offense. That will take the pressure off of their defense and goalies as the season goes on. It also shows how times have changed in Washington. Before, if you stopped Ovechkin, you stopped the Caps. But those days are gone. Now the Caps might have too many weapons to watch. Someone will be able to get open and find good shots. They all can't be stopped. It's why the Caps should rack up some big-time offensive numbers this season. CAPITALS 5, CANUCKS 1: The Caps made life miserable for the Canucks in their only trip to Washington this year. They were able to establish the fast-paced style that could prove difficult for most teams to match. The Canucks simply couldn't get the puck or keep up with the Caps. They rarely found open shots -- or any, for that matter. Alexander Semin led the way with two goals, while Michael Nylander added a goal and two assists. Copyright (C) 2008 The Sports Xchange.
