Canadiens report: Inside shots
There's no shortage of confidence in the Canadiens camp as they head to Philadelphia to wrap up their season-opening three-game road trip. The Canadiens looked flat in a 2-1 shootout loss to Buffalo on Friday, but they rebounded Saturday with a convincing 6-1 win over the Maple Leafs in Toronto. The Canadiens needed a boost before the Flyers game. While they swept Philadelphia in their four regular-season games last season, the Flyers eliminated Montreal in five games in the second round of the playoffs. "I hope this gives us some momentum going into Philly," said captain Saku Koivu, who collected three assists against the Leafs. "We were disappointed the way it ended last year, and I hope we can take advantage of that." The Canadiens added some size in the offseason to deal with the physical Flyers. While heavyweight Georges Laraque won't be back for the game in Philadelphia -- he is nursing a groin injury -- the Canadiens have added two big forwards, Alex Tanguay and Robert Lang, and third-year pro Guillaume Latendresse is finally learning to use his size. The Canadiens have tweaked their power play, and the biggest change has been the addition of Sergei Kostitsyn to the No. 2 unit. The younger of the two Kostitsyn brothers scored two goals and added an assist in the win over Toronto. Goaltender Carey Price will return to the nets. He allowed only one goal on 38 shots in regulation and overtime in Buffalo. CANADIENS 6, MAPLE LEAFS 1: The Canadiens offense came to life as they broke through for six goals, including three on the power play. Second-year pro Sergei Kostitsyn had two power-play goals and added an assist on a power-play goal by Alex Tanguay. Roman Hamrlik, Guillaume Latendresse and Alex Kovalev scored the other goals. Goaltender Jaroslav Halak stopped 24 of 25 shots for the win. Copyright (C) 2008 The Sports Xchange. All Rights Reserved.
