Sweater Showdown: Pacific Division

Critiques of the new jerseys for Pacific Division teams:

Anaheim Ducks

The guy: Black is good. The stripe pattern on the bottom starts to resemble Penguins colors and I miss the franchise's campy origins. That said, I'm not thinking about Daffy, Donald or Launchpad when I see this jersey.

The chick: They should have a duck on there, not the name. It's not often I get to see ducks, show me ducks. Plus, you have to wear binoculars to the game just to see what it actually says on the jersey.

The collector: I'm guessing the person who designed this is a torn soul from Pennsylvania since the Penguins and Flyers colors are equally represented. I wish they'd use the duck-foot "D" as the logo instead of "Ducks."

Dallas Stars

The guy: One of my favorites. Simple. Clean. And finally shows the team has cut ties with its Minnesota roots.

The chick: There's no star, oh, they're on the shoulders. Just plain, nothing really to say about them.

The collector: I like the plain look. It reminds me of the jerseys they wore during the final days in Minnesota and early years in Dallas.

Los Angeles Kings

The guy: I miss the black and silver of old, but the blue looks royal and the "Los Angeles" along the bottom has a nice font to it.

The chick: Oh, the Kings I like. The crown is kind of, you know, uh, Ellen DeGeneresy, but I like how they have "Los Angeles" written across the bottom. But they should put "Kings" on the backside.

The collector: I've never been a big fan of the black, white, purple and silver jerseys. I was kind of hoping they'd bring back the vintage look from the Marcel Dionne days. At least they got rid of the purple third jersey.

Phoenix Coyotes

The guy: Big improvement over the green-red-purple monstrosity they used to put on. Seems to draw inspiration from the Red Wings' classic red-white color combination. The coyote on the front looks like the one voiced by Johnny Cash in The Simpsons episode The Mysterious Voyage of our Homer.

The chick: They have those ugly laces (this will become a trend observation, be warned). What's that below the head? Feathers?

The collector: I like the revamped logo over the "Picasso on peyote" styled Coyote. At least these jerseys won't be an eyesore for fans who are already stuck watching a bad on-ice product in Phoenix.

San Jose Sharks

The guy: When the Sharks came into the league back in the early 1990s turquoise, like Bel Biv Devoe, was all the rage. You couldn't go anywhere without seeing turquoise Geo Trackers or turquoise BodyGlove t-shirts. Now, it's just plain hard on the eyes. Plus, let's camp-up the Shark a little bit. Put some boxing gloves on his fins, have him standing on his tail and winding up for a big haymaker. Now, that's a shark that would scare me.

The chick: Oh, I like the Sharks one. I like the colors, although I must say, the orange doesn't really go. Are they trying to be like The U? If so, they're flirting with the worst color combination in sports. No shade of orange should ever go with green. I, however, do like the turquoise though.

The collector: I'm a fan of teal and black combinations, but the orange just wasn't necessary. The new logo looks like a new Pokemon you'll be able to collect in the next installment of the game ("Sharkapuck-- Go!"). I'll stick with my first-generation Sharks jersey.
