Rangers think little of Shanahan: The Sports Xchange reports free agent RW Brendan Shanahan, whose 650 career goals included 23 for the Rangers last season, reportedly has been offered little more than a non-guaranteed tryout -- and isn't inclined to accept it.

Rangers GM Glen Sather continues to say the door is open for Shanahan to return, but the regular season is almost underway and roster cut downs are coming. Shanahan will be entering his 21st NHL season, if he can find a home in 2008-09. His 20th season was plagued by injuries and Shanahan played just 32 regular-season games after Jan. 1. He had a decent playoff push with one goal and three assists in 10 games, but Shanahan definitely lost some pep in his offensive game. Shanahan should only be considered a late-round Fantasy pick at this point since he is still without a team.
