Sharks acquire Boyle from Lightning: The San Jose Sharks acquired D Dan Boyle from Tampa Bay in a four-player deal Friday, trading D Matt Carle and top prospect Ty Wishart to the Lightning to add their second star defenseman in two days. The Sharks also picked up veteran D Brad Lukowich, one of Boyle's closest friends, while giving up a first-round pick in 2009 and a fourth-round choice in 2010. (Updated 07/06/2008).

Fantasy Analysis
Boyle missed a ton of time last season after injuring his wrist when a skate fell on it, but he is one of the better offensive blue-liners in the league and should thrive in San Jose. Consider him low-end No. 1 or high-end No. 2 Fantasy defenseman worth taking in the first few rounds of all drafts. Carle was a massive disappointment last season, but he put up 42 points in 2006-07 and is worth taking in later rounds as a sleeper low-end Fantasy defenseman. Wishart is a great prospect, but likely only has an outside shot of making the Lightning squad to start 2008-09. He'll probably play in the AHL, but is definitely worth owning in long-term keeper formats. Lukowich, meanwhile, has never made a huge impact in his 10-year career. Ignore him in all drafts.
