Titans report: Inside slant
LenDale White gained a lot of credibility with the Titans last season for showing toughness and playing through a variety of nicks en rout to a 16-start, 1,110-yard season. He had a knee scope after the season was over, but Jeff Fisher sold it as a standard maintenance procedure. But at a recent OTA practice session, White indicated things were worse than he and the team let on. According to White, he played the entire 2007 season with a torn meniscus after injuring it in the preseason. "I played with it all season," White said. "Contrary to what people believe, I am a soldier. I played on it all year and I didn't complain, not once. I waited until the season was over to get it fixed and now it is fixed and I'm feeling good. ... "It affected me a lot because it took me a long time to get warmed up. It was catching a lot, and it hurt on certain days," White said. "Before we played San Diego, I was warming up and it was hurting bad. But I fought through it. Now I am back and it's 100 percent and it feels good." White said he "loves" new offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger and his system but still misses his old offensive coordinator, Norm Chow, who had coached him at Southern California. White said he's looking forward to working with first-round draft pick "I don't view me giving up my spot anytime soon, and that's not a knock at anybody here, but I'm going to work hard," White said. "I think it's great that we've brought in a guy like him that can come in and change the pace up. He gives the defense a different look. He is zippier." White wouldn't talk about his weight, indicating he's only five or 10 pounds off what the Titans want and that he likes to see all the media speculation about how he's faring on the scales. Fisher said he's pleased with running White's weight. "He is in good shape," Fisher said. "From a conditioning standpoint he is understandably behind the rest of the guys because he was limited coming off the knee scope, but the knee issue is behind him and he feels good."
