The Bears placed DT Dusty Dvoracek on their PUP list at the start of training camp, meaning that he won't practice with the team until he's healthy. The team can take him off the list at any point during the preseason but will lose him for at least six games if he's still on the list just before Week 1. (Updated 07/23/2008)
The Bears have officially placed RB Kevin Jones on the Physically Unable to Perform list, meaning that he won't practice with the team until he's healthy. The team can take him off the list at any point during the preseason but will lose him for at least six games if he's still on the list just before Week 1. The Daily Herald, a suburban Chicago newspaper, reports that Bears coach Lovie Smith won't rush Jones on the practice field this summer. Jones tore his ACL late last season and is seven months removed from surgery; the typical recovery time from ACL surgery is nine-to-12 months. "There's a chance he won't be ready to go right away," Smith said. "We checked out his knee, and it's sound and all of that. ... We won't be in a hurry to rush him in there, but he eventually will help us." (Updated 07/23/2008)
The Chicago Bears signed free agent RB Kevin Jones on a one-year contract Tuesday. Jones, who underwent a physical in Chicago on Monday, had worked out for prospective teams earlier this month just five months after he had major knee surgery. The Lions cut their former first-round pick in March with one year left on his contract after he injured the knee late last season, adding to the injury woes that have stunted his success in the league. Jones rushed for 581 yards and eight touchdowns in 2007 but missed the last game of the season after suffering a serious knee injury against the Chiefs in Week 16. Jones also missed the first two games last season recovering from a foot injury that had sidelined him for the final three games of 2006. (Updated 07/15/2008)
Bears WR Mark Bradley is missing workouts following arthroscopic surgery on his right knee this month. Team officials said it's "questionable" whether Bradley will be healthy enough to participate at the outset of training camp July 23. Wide receivers coach Darryl Drake said he expects Bradley to recover in time for camp. (Updated 05/22/2008)

The Chicago Bears and LB Brian Urlacher agreed to a contract extension Monday through the 2012 season, according to published reports. The Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times reported that the extension is worth $18 million, including a $6 million signing bonus. The Bears declined to confirm the deal. Players were scheduled to report to training camp at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais on Tuesday. Urlacher, entering his ninth season, signed a nine-year, $57 million contract in 2003 that would have expired after 2011. Last season, Urlacher played with an arthritic back condition and also had minor offseason neck surgery. Urlacher, 30, has been selected for the Pro Bowl six times and has 15 career interceptions and 37.5 sacks. (Updated 07/22/2008)
