Jets ring up 56 points in romp over Cardinals

Order has been restored.

The Jets, who truly believe they're contenders, looked a lot more like pretenders in their last game, a sloppy 19-point loss Monday night in San Diego, and their players were sick about it.

If the NFL schedule-makers would have allowed it, the Jets would have played their next game the next day.

"I told you we wanted to get back onto the field and prove that we're a good team," safety Kerry Rhodes said after the Jets walloped the Cardinals 56-35 yesterday at Giants Stadium. "That was more like it."

Indeed, it was.

The Jets, wearing New York Titans throwback uniforms, forced a staggering seven Arizona turnovers on defense and rode a career-high six touchdown passes by Brett Favre en route to a victory they had to have. The Jets are now 2-2 heading into their bye week.

"That showed what we can do," Jets DE Shaun Ellis said.

Favre's six TD passes were one shy of the NFL game record held by Sid Luckman, Adrian Burk, George Blanda, Y.A. Title and Joe Kapp.

"This was huge, because Monday night was an embarrassment," Jets LB David Bowens said. "Whatever we thought we were before that [loss to the Chargers], we weren't. Today we were, and we formed some type of identity."

The Jets' plan was evident from the outset yesterday: Get after Cardinals' turnover-prone QB Kurt Warner and get after him early.

The result was five Jets sacks, four Warner fumbles, three of which were lost, and three Warner interceptions.

The turning point to the game was the entire second quarter, during which the Jets scored 34 points, a franchise-record for most points in a single quarter.

Check out these numbers in the first half:
