Sep. 15--KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Sebastian Janikowski continues to kick his way up the Raiders' record book.
Janikowski broke his team record with a 56-yard field goal and moved into second place in career points in helping the Raiders defeat the Kansas City Chiefs 23-8 Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium.
Janikowski made three field goals and two extra points. That gives him 821 points in nine seasons and puts him ahead of Chris Bahr's 817 points.
Janikowski trails only George Blanda's 863 points for the most points in team history.
His 56-yard field goal in the first quarter broke his previous franchise record of 55 yards, which he's made twice. Janikowski's first 55-yarder came Nov. 2, 2003, in Detroit, his second coming Nov. 12, 2006, in Denver.
Raiders coach Lane Kiffin had a hunch as to why Janikowski felt confident about trying a long kick against the Chiefs.
"Because they play soccer here," Kiffin said. "They played last night. The soccer lines out there make him feel better."
Janikowski was a member of the Polish national under-17 soccer team and continues to play in the offseason.
Holding steady -- Turns out no one needed to worry about tackle Mario Henderson.
The second-year pro made his first NFL start against the Chiefs and wasn't called for any penalties. Kiffin said the team ran to the right side of the offensive line about 75 percent of the time to take pressure off Henderson.
"He still has to perform and still has to do things," Kiffin said. "I'm very pleased with Mario."
Henderson knows he can improve a lot. He also credited his teammates with helping him out.
