Week 5 -- Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008 (After the 1 p.m. ET games)
Expert Analysis Buying or selling the Colts after their comeback victory vs. the Texans?  Admit it, who thought the Eagles were going to take down the Redskins today?  Exactly how pathetic were the Seahawks on Sunday?  Which performance caught your eye?

Analysis
This is the type of game that could be a season saver for the Colts. They are still hurting in a lot of spots, and that showed up for most of the game, but to steal one like this can get a team going. I'm still buying. I did. When I see a team go on the road and play back-to-back road games in the division, I expect the worst for that team. The Redskins pushed the Eagles all over the field. And the Philly offense did little right. That's an impressive victory for the Redskins. Seeing it at home on the satellite almost made me puke. They were awful. Why bother making the trip? That team has issues in a lot of areas. Surprisingly one of those is defense. It has to be Kyle Orton. He threw for 334 yards and two touchdowns and no interceptions. That's impressive, even if it came against a bad Lions defense. If Orton can keep that going, the Bears will win that division.

Buying. September was preseason for the Colts. Now they're getting their act together. OK, so today was dramatic. Peyton Manning is sharp again, the offensive line is together again, and the team is winning again.I thought the Eagles would win, but I thought it would be close. Washington went through the Dallas-Philadelphia road trip hoping to win just one. It won two, and Jim Zorn's program just got a big credibility boost, again. Seattle can't play defense and that's a problem. The Seahawks couldn't cover, couldn't tackle, and couldn't pressure the pocket. I don't care how good Matt Hasselbeck is; you can't mask bad defense. Miami knocking off San Diego. I know 1 p.m. games are tough on West Coast teams, but the Chargers are supposed to be an elite club. Then how come they can't put LT into the end zone on fourth-and-1?

Analysis
The Colts were gift-wrapped this game, so I'm selling. Their defense is atrocious, specifically against the run, and Indy's offensive line still isn't doing the job. They're a far cry from the team that beat the Bears in Super Bowl XLI. I didn't think it would be a blowout, but I did think Philly would keep it close. Even with Santana Moss catchless, the Redskins are giving an awesome effort defensively, and it's helping. On a scale of 1-to-ugly, they're a 10. This was a team coming off a bye flying east and playing at 10 a.m. PT vs. a team coming off a bye playing at home and staying undefeated. If this game were in Seattle, it might not be this lopsided. This is the second week in a row where Kyle Orton has posted a strong performance. This is being done with a very underachieving receiving corps. With teams stocking up to stop Matt Forte, Orton is coming of age.

Kay Analysis
Buying. Even though it was after a bye week and vs. a team with Sage Rosenfels, the Colts are still trying to find their groove after a disrupted preseason. They got the ground game going in spurts, and with all their personnel healthy, things will only get better for Dungy's club.My arm is raised. I thought the Redskins left it all in Dallas, and I thought the Eagles would stifle the run. But the Hogs are unstoppable, simply, moving the trench forward on every running play. Watching the 'Skins play these days, you just get the feeling a game is never out of reach. There's nothing positive to take from a game in which your club gives up 523 yards, but we'll try. Olindo Mare was 2-for-2 on field goals. Uh, Bobby Engram had eight catches. There were no reports of food poisining from the pregame omelet stations. The Matt Ryan-Roddy White connection is legit. Defensive coordinators know it's coming, but team's just can't do anything to stop these two -- just like other great tandems such as Steve Young and Jerry Rice or Winger and Ziskey.

Game threads
Bears vs. Eagles:
This should be a great game as both teams have great defenses.

  • Both the Bears and Eagles could use a victory here.
  • Brian Westbrook might not play for the Eagles as he is injured.

  • Post your thoughts.
Redskins vs. Cowboys:
Great rivalry, that is for sure
  • Dallas is at home and will be looking forward to exploiting a lesser Redskins team.
  • Tony Romo, Marion Barber and Terrell Owens should be primed for this one.
  • Post your thoughts.
Game of the week
Dallas at Washington, 8:15 p.m. ET
The line: Cowboys by 1½ Endzone
Dallas must win this game. It's as simple as that. The Cowboys are in free fall, losing three of their past four, but have Tony Romo, Terrence Newman and Kyle Kosier back on the field after taking last week off. Never has a bye been more welcome, with the Cowboys in retreat before stepping back to regroup. Here's my question: Is there a rust factor with these guys, and, if so, how does it affect the Cowboys?
