Browns release DB Kenny Wright after arrest

BEREA, Ohio -- The Cleveland Browns cut backup defensive back Kenny Wright, who was arrested last month on marijuana possession charges after trying to outrun police in Texas.

The team released a statement Wednesday on Wright's release shortly after concluding their second day of organized team activities (OTAs). Wright was not present at the workout, and coach Romeo Crennel was asked afterward if the 30-year-old was still on the team.

"He still has a contract at this time," Crennel said.

Wright faces misdemeanor charges of unlawful restraint, evading arrest and possession of marijuana. Police in Pearland, Texas, said officers were investigating a disturbance in the police station parking lot around 11:30 a.m. on April 3. When officers approached Wright, he took off running and was eventually caught in a nearby subdivision.

Police said they found 1.875 ounces of marijuana in Wright's vehicle.

Wright played in seven games last season, getting three tackles and one quarterback pressure. He has played in 133 NFL games for Minnesota, Houston, Jacksonville, Washington and Cleveland.

Most people are wondering how a professional football player, a DB, got caught by on foot by cops. Well the answer is simple. Its Texas, every police officer is a former all-state highschool player at some sport. And the reason they all have mullets is to cover their necks and protect them from getting sunburned. Grow a mullet and avoid a redneck but you still have a mullet. Its a catch 22.

Do NFL players need a babysitter in the offseason or what?  It seems like everyday I log on to sportsline there are 3 new NFL arrests.  Even my own beloved Tatupu was rollin hammered!  I just don't get it.  In this offseason alone there have been how many DUI's?  How many shootings?  How many assaults?  It is just crazy.  I am a huge fan of the NFL, and ...(more)
